Mauricio Dal Pozzo Schneider and Nataly Garcia Alvarado are MA candidates in the European Master in Law, Data and AI (EMILDAI), an interdisciplinary study programme between Dublin City University, the University of León, and the University of Pisa. For the summer, they are joining the Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI) at the University of Bremen for a research stay, associated with the AI PAN-AFRICANISM project (led by PGMT member Dr. Dennis Redeker). Dublin City University and specifically Prof. Edoardo Celeste and his team are a long-term partners of ZeMKI, with regular exchanges of students and staff. ZeMKI in turn, is an associate partner of the EMILDAI programme, having hosted talented EMILDAI students already in 2024.

Mauricio specializes in cybersecurity law. Before turning to research, he practiced as a lawyer, and his current work centers on EU digital regulation, data protection, and AI governance. Nataly, also a lawyer, brings more than ten years of experience in international trade and investment to her second year in the programme. She studies AI governance and digital sovereignty, cross-border data flows, and the building of trusted digital ecosystems, drawing comparisons between Europe, Latin America, and the Global South.

Both are hosted by the Platform Governance, Media, and Technology (PGMT) Lab, where their research feeds into a broader effort to understand how emerging approaches to digital governance shape regulatory frameworks, international cooperation, and digital transformation across regions, with particular attention to Africa. The work touches on digital sovereignty, and decolonial practices. Alongside this research, Mauricio and Nataly are supporting colleagues draft a proposal for the Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) Staff Exchanges scheme, which funds short term exchanges between research staff across academic and non-academic institutions in Europe and beyond. Their presence in Bremen deepens the ties between the EMILDAI and ZeMKI and adds to an ongoing conversation about how AI governance develops across different regions.
