Christian Katzenbach, Professor of Media and Communication at ZeMKI, University of Bremen, has joined the Centre of Governance & Human Rights (CGHR) at the University of Cambridge as a Research Network Affiliate. CGHR gathers experts, practitioners and policymakers to consider governance and human rights issues around the world. With a focus on impact beyond academia and a multi-disciplinary approach, the centre is strongly committed to advancing thought and practice regarding global justice and human well-being in the twenty-first century.
In Cambridge, Christian will contribute to the CGHR research theme “Global Experiences of Algorithmic Governance,” building on his long-standing work on how technologies both shape and are shaped by discourses and regulations. The joint activities at CGHR align with his research agenda on platform governance, the discursive and political shaping of AI, and the growing automation of communication.
Katzenbach heads the Lab “Platform Governance, Media, and Technology” at the Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI), and directs the MA programme “Digital Media and Society” at the University of Bremen.
